The Values of God

Passage: Jeremiah 2:4-13, Luke 14:1-14
Service Type:

Jeremiah accuses Israel of turning away from the God who brought them out of slavery in Egypt.  Instead they have turned to the worship of idols.  Even their leaders, political and religious have fallen away from God.  The passage from Luke begins with the religious leaders valuing the keeping of Sabbath over human life.  Instead Jesus reminds them that God values helping those in need, and caring for people.

God calls s to always return to the primary commandments:  love God and love Your neighbor.

God of Abraham and Sarah, You have called us to love You and one another.  Yet We have allowed ourselves to become distracted by the world’s values.  We sometimes let love of power, or wealth, or physical beauty, keep us from seeing the world through Your eyes.  We judge others, not by their faith, but by their position in society.  We let our love for You grow cold.  Forgive us, and revive the embers of love in our hearts, that we may offer faithful service to You.
