The Gifts of God

Pastor:
Passage: Colossians 1:15-28, Luke 10:38-42
Service Type:

Paul stresses in Colossians that Christ is greater than all creation.  Christ lived a sinless life, and through His gift has removed the sin from us, leaving us blameless.  We are called to strive to continue in that state, letting the Spirit remold us and reshape us into God’s image.  Mary and Martha are both drawn to Jesus and His teachings.  But Martha is distracted.  Mary listens to Jesus even to the cost of not doing her duty.  The focus needs to be on Christ above all else.

If we focus on serving Christ, God will work out other things in life that we think are important.

Confession

God, our creator, help us to remember to place You as of first importance.  We know that we are distracted easily by what the world says is important.  We allow ourselves to focus on things, or on relationships that come between You and ourselves.  We lose sight of the great gift of salvation and forgiveness, and drift away.  Call our attention back to You, and enable us to serve You with joy.
