Received by God

Passage: Hebrews 12:18-24, Luke 13:10-17
Service Type:

Hebrews reminds us that we are not going to God in fear, but in peace through the blood of Jesus.  Jesus heals a woman on the Sabbath.  She has come to the synagogue, possibly to seek alms.  For 18 years she has been unable to stand straight.  Jesus heals her and she praises God.  The leader of the synagogue encourages people to come on other days for healing.  Jesus reminds him that God is interested in the welfare of all His people.

God wants the best for us, despite obstacles placed in our way.

Holy God, you are beyond our understanding.  But we often turn our reverent awe of Your majesty into fear, a fear that keeps You at a distance.  Instead of welcoming Your love, we push You away.  Instead of receiving Your gifts, we close ourselves off.  We let our fears keep us from hearing Your call to service.  Instead of receiving Your Spirit’s gifts, we reject the strength and comfort You offer.  Forgive us, and help us be open to all You would do in us and through us.
