Loving the Unlovable
Jesus gives a “new” commandment: That his disciples should love one another as He loves them. After the resurrection Peter has been reaching out to make new disciples, until he is called to reach out to the gentiles. It takes a special revelation from God before he is willing to “contaminate” himself by going into a non-Jewish household. Once he does, they quickly become followers of Jesus. Is God calling us to reach out to people whom we would rather not associate with?
God will guide us to the people to whom we need to witness.
Lord Jesus, you have given us a call to love one another, but also to love our enemies. Sometimes this feels impossible for us. Yet You were willing to die to forgive those whose sin placed you on the cross. You have given us the example, yet we still would rather not reach beyond our own circle of family and friends. Forgive us. Teach us to love all whom You put in our path.
