Living in Obedience

Passage: Exodus 20:1-20, Matthew 21:33-40
Service Type:

Moses relayed the 10 commandments:  8 were prohibitions, 2 were positive, and harder to quantify.  The scribes and the Pharisees had to come up with a lot of extra regulations to tell people how to honor the Sabbath and to honor their parents.  They felt the others were self-explanatory.    Jesus spoke of many of these commandments.  But he also told this parable about people trying to take God’s place, thus disobeying the first commandment.  He notes that this led them to commit violence and murder.  One sin leads to another.    We are called to lead lives obedient to these and of course to the shemah, and the golden rule.
