Humble Obedience

Passage: Philippians 2:1-13, Matthew 21:23-32
Service Type:

Jesus is challenged by the religious authorities about his credentials for teaching in the temple.  In return he challenges their faith.  He states that the notorious sinners who repent may make it into the kingdom of heaven before the religious leaders who assume they are righteous without seeking God’s grace.  Philippians points out that we should be humble as Jesus was humble before God.

Holy God, we are constantly tempted by pride.  We think ourselves better than others.  We think ourselves more righteous than we actually are.  We stay blinded to our own faults and failures, while seeing them magnified in others.  We want others to serve us, instead of becoming servants to love in how we treat them.  Forgive us, and renew in us a clean heart.
