A Life of Love and Service
After Peter’s confession of Jesus as the Son of the Living God, Jesus begins to explain that His role as messiah means that he will die and on the third day rise. Peter speaking for the others tries to convince Jesus that He must be mistaken. Jesus then goes on to say that not only will He face a cross, but that anyone who follows Him should expect one as well. Paul, after telling the Romans that we should offer ourselves as a living sacrifice, explains that this means living a life of love, joy, hope, prayer, and generosity.
Lord of Love and forgiveness, you gave up Your life on the cross to show us that love and grace. Yet too often we are blind about how our lives should mirror Yours. We don’t show love and forgives to our friends, much less our enemies. We don’t practice the golden rule. Instead we hold grudges and we treat others with suspicion and hostility. Forgive us, and teach us to love as You have first loved us.
