A Matter of the Heart

Verse of the day: John 16 : 13 “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.” (NIV)

I had the opportunity to go on a white tail deer hunt in southeast Texas a couple of weeks ago and flew out of Albuquerque on a Sunday evening under clear blue skies. And as I awoke Monday in Houston to catch a flight to Falfurrias Texas I couldn’t help but notice how cloudy it was. I was hoping it would be clear enough that I would be able to see the ocean as we gained height in altitude. But as luck would have it there were times when you could barely see the tips of the wings as we went through the thick clouds. And I am thinking to myself “man I’m glad I’m not flying this thing” and “how the heck can these guys tell where we are.” Well within a few minutes we finally broke through the clouds and could see bright blue skies as far as the eye could see, but I still could not see any land marks as to where we might be. As we started back down to come in for landing we were once again met with heavy cloud cover. We were within a hundred feet or so of the ground before we could see the one lane runway in what seemed to be the middle of no place.

To me life is like this—it’s pretty easy to get someplace when you can see where you are going. And if you are like me I do pretty good getting some place if I can see what’s ahead of me and if there are lots of signs or landmarks to follow. But what about those times when you can’t see very far or maybe there is no light at all or you find yourself in heavy cloud cover not sure where you are at--then what do you do?
This is where today’s scripture reminds us that when we are connected to the Spirit of truth (that is the Holy Spirit) He will guide us in truth. And just like the pilots of our plane could not see at times and had to trust in the plane’s navigation system and those on the ground to guide them to our final destination safely, we must do the same and allow God’s word and His Spirit to guide our paths. Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.”

I don’t know who the pilot of your plane is today, but if you are sitting in the captain’s chair making all the decisions and thinking you know exactly where you are and where you are going, maybe you need to change seats before heavy clouds impair your vision and you lose sight of where you are heading. Even though the sky is clear and blue and your flight plan looks good- you never know when or how the weather conditions could change during your flight. So, get connected to the best Pilot I know “Jesus Christ” and regardless what the weather conditions are you will always know He will get you to your final destination safely.

Verse of the day: John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (NIV)

Twas the night before closing on our new log cabin house,
God knew without a doubt, that we couldn’t be as quite as a mouse!
So, He filled our heart with excitement and Joy,
Because He want to give us more than just a toy.
Now Jo was uh packing things to wear and things to eat,
And I myself was packing the meat.

God had figured out just what to do,
Long before Jo and I ever knew.
God never told us His complete plan,
But He gave us a strong foundation upon which to stand.

And Jesus Christ is His name,
Now He didn’t come wanting to claim any fame.
He only wanted to serve and provide,
A way for you and I to survive.

Many a word He had to share, during His short time here,
As He went straight to work trying to keep us near!
But, as we look around not many want to slow down and hear,
What God did during this time of the year.

He sent us a baby from glory you see,
That we might seek Him on our knees.
He has promised to give us mansion in Heaven,
If only we will give Him our hearts and our burdens.

So, Jo and I pray that you will remember the reason,
Why we love to celebrate this season.
For unto you a child has been born,
So, you don’t have to be tattered and torn.
Come one come all to see this birth,
Because He came to free this earth.
So dash away dash away to find Him today,
For tomorrow may be too late to pray.

Jo and I pray that God will bless and keep you and your family safe this Christmas season. And that He gives you the desires of your heart in the years to come.  As always HAVE A GREAT DAY IN THE LORD AND SHARE IT WITH SOMEONE! And Merry Christmas to all!
