A Matter of the Heart

Verse for the Day: 2 Corinthians 4:6  For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ. (NIV)

One of the great features we have in our cabin in Colorado is built-in lights in the stairs. Every other step has a light built in that comes on to light your steps when it starts getting dark. Even on the darkest night we don't have to turn on a light switch in order to see the steps. There is a motion sensor at the top and bottom of the staircase that senses motion and turns the lights on even before you take your first step up or down. The sensors are made to sense how dark it is getting so the darker it gets the more the sensors realize the need for light when someone is preparing to go up or down the stairs. With that said I do currently have one slight problem with one of the sensors that keeps activating the lights every so often even though no one is going up or down the stairs. But I guess that's definitely better than never knowing the need to light the path.

Did you know we have a motion detector built inside each one of us to light our paths? God has put his Holy Spirit in us to guide us even before we take a step. That is if we will listen, look for and allow Him to guide and light our paths. The problem is a lot of people have allowed something else to be a light sensor in their lives. Like the sensor on my step that turns on and off the lights when no one is there. Too many people now-a-days follow lighted paths that The Lord never intended for them to travel on. They see what they believe to be a lighted path either from their own making or maybe even feel it's from God. And without ever testing or verifying it is truly God providing the light they head down a path that will eventually leave them in the dark.

Don't think for one minute that satan doesn't know your weaknesses. He knows how to tempt you with just enough light to get you started down the wrong path. And if you’re not careful that light can and will turn to total and complete darkness if you don't find the One True Light that leads back to God. That is why we are told in 1 John to test all things in light of the Spirit. Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1

Life is tough enough on its own but without the Lord in your life it is impossible to live a Godly life or find your path to your eternal home in Heaven. Just like the motion sensors in our stairway provide light to safely help us get up and down the steps in the dark,  God sent us His Son and gave us His Holy Spirit so They could light our paths and direct our steps in this journey we call life.

What are you allowing to light your path? Are there faulty spirits like the faulty sensor on my steps trying to tempt you down the wrong path? When was the last time you stopped to test the spirit to see whether it was from God or something else?

If something doesn't feel right or you’re not sure it's God speaking to you, be patient and allow the Holy Spirit to direct your steps because our God is not a God of confusion. He will light your path and guide your steps if you will allow Him to lead you.  John 8:12 12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Verse of the Day: Philippians 4:6 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (NIV)

The abilities we have to listen, learn and/or communicate now-a-days are so amazing! We have IPad, IPod, and IPhones to name just a few ways we receive or pass on information to ourselves or others. It all depends on what you are trying to do as to which device you prefer to use. Like most people my wife and I are in the habit of switching from our IPhone to our IPad depending what we are trying to do and a lot of that is determined if we know where our reading glass are. It’s got to be because the screens are getting smaller and not because we can’t see up close like we use to, Right? Another device I use a lot while traveling is my IPod which has music, books, and other things downloaded on it.

So let me ask you this question: If you only had one “I” device to choose from which would it be- Your IPad, IPhone, IPod or something else? Sorry, no second choices here, just choose one, what’s your preference. Take your time think about it then I will give you my preference. ………… Made up your mind? Are you sure there is not another “I” device you would prefer to go through life with, if you only had one choice.

This might surprise some of you but none of these “I” devices can compare to what my “I” communication device can do. As a matter of fact you can keep or have all three of your devices and use them at the same time if you like, but they still can’t even come close to my “I” communication. And to top this off my communication “I” cost nothing-only a little time and effort on my part in order to make it effective. So what is my “I” device called? “IPRAY”

During the last month or so Pastor Jeff has shared a thought from one of Matthew West latest song about a man who is shaking his fist at God saying: “God why don’t you do something” and God reply back “I did, I made you”. God created each one of in His image that we might bring glory to His name. And one of the greatest honors, privileges and duties we have as Christians is to pray for one another. Ephesians 6:18 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

The power of prayer has the ability to turn the impossible to the possible, the hopeless into the hopeful, the faithless into the faithful, the lost to be found and the spiritually dead to the eternally living. When we take the time to pray in God’s Spirit and in His will there is no end to what we can be accomplished through God’s unleashed Power. By praying we turn human strength into Super Natural Strength.

While IPads, IPods, and IPhones can be amazingly powerful and useful devices for communicating in a worldly sense and yes they can be used at time to share God’s word with others, they will never compare with “I Pray”. When you take the time to pray for or with someone, including yourself, you have the Power of the Holy Spirit working in and through you that no IPads, IPods, IPhone or any other communication device can or ever will be able to provide.

How does the time you spend with “IPray” compare to the time you spend on your IPad, IPod, and IPhone? If you feel like there is a commutation gap between you and the Lord or others or you’re having a hard time finding answers to difficult problems in your life. Why not put down the IPads, IPods, and IPhones and try IPray instead. God wants to hear from you today and every day and when we pray in accordance with His will all things are possible. James 5:16 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. Where will you put your trust-- In your IPads, IPods, IPhones or IPray? 1 Chronicles 5:20 He answered their prayers, because they trusted in him. I don’t know about you But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:15
