A Matter of the Heart

Verse for the Day: 1 John 2:15-16 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. NLT

There have been many great investments throughout history that have made people millionaires and billionaires. Some happen almost overnight while other may take perseverance and time to achieve. Investments like Yahoo, GM, Wal Mart, Amazon, Apple or Honeywell  to name just a few stocks that, if you had invested in them when they first went public and still had that original investment today, well let's say you probably not hurting for a lack of financial security right now. But with any earthly investment we must remember they are only temporary. In all the years that God has allowed me to live here on this earth I can't say I have ever seen a  Uhaul or moving van following a hearse to a cemetery before. So, here is a news flash for some of you: YOU CAN'T take it with you once you die.

Now there is nothing wrong per-say with wealth or money if you use it in a God honoring way. After all God did say He wants to give us life and give it abundantly. John 10:10 ... I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. (NKJV) But He also warned us that the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. 1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (NKJV)

So, for those of you who are investment challenged here is an investment tip that is sure fire to last forever. It will never go down in value, it cost the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. As a matter of fact anyone who has ever invested in it has never lost-since the day it was offered and accepted- it's a 100%+ guaranteed return on your invest. And no it's not called Yahoo- He is called Yahweh.

Yahweh, Jehovah, Abba Father (Daddy), Creator, Lord, Savior, Papa God-regardless where you are in life when you call on and invest your life in God's Stock you will find the rewards and benefits far out last and perform better than any earthly investment you could ever make. As a matter of fact the rewards and benefits are out of this world.

For me personally the more time, money, effort, attention, love-the more of my life I invest in my walk with The Lord, the more I am blessed and the more I realize that without this investment I have nothing. There truly is only One investment that is priceless and will last for ever and ever. And the best part of this investment is that it's free for the asking. While there will be some cost associated with this investment once you accept it, the rewards you will receive will far outweigh the price you will pay by not investing in it.

So, let me ask you this question, what does your stock portfolio look like? Does it only have worldly investments in it that one day will disappear and be forgotten? Is your investment the kind that moths and rust will not destroy as we see in Matthew 6 : 19-20 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. (NKJV)

Take a stock tip from someone who has invested in both kind of investments, worldly and Heavenly. When you get the Heavenly investment right and put it first, God can and will bless the rest of your investments. Whether those blessings are in the form of emotional, physical, financial, spiritual, marital benefits, or anything else, when you put The Lord first in all things they always workout better. Matthew 6:33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. (NLT)  If you already didn’t know it, the God investment symbol is spelled "JESUS". You might want to remember that because it will be the Best Investment you will ever make if you haven’t already done so.  Hebrews 10:35-36 35 So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! 36 Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.

Verse for the Day: Ezekiel 36:24-35 24 “‘For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land. 25 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. 28 Then you will live in the land I gave your ancestors; you will be my people, and I will be your God. 29 I will save you from all your uncleanness. I will call for the grain and make it plentiful and will not bring famine upon you. 30 I will increase the fruit of the trees and the crops of the field, so that you will no longer suffer disgrace among the nations because of famine. 31 Then you will remember your evil ways and wicked deeds, and you will loathe yourselves for your sins and detestable practices. 32 I want you to know that I am not doing this for your sake, declares the Sovereign LORD. Be ashamed and disgraced for your conduct, people of Israel! 33 “‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: On the day I cleanse you from all your sins, I will resettle your towns, and the ruins will be rebuilt. 34 The desolate land will be cultivated instead of lying desolate in the sight of all who pass through it. 35 They will say, “This land that was laid waste has become like the garden of Eden; the cities that were lying in ruins, desolate and destroyed, are now fortified and inhabited.”

Throughout our lives there are special moments we all remember as if they happened yesterday. Moments that changed our hearts, our thinking our very way of living life. Throughout history we see special moments recorded by others by building some kind of memorial, altar, pile of rocks, stake driven in the ground or some other kind of marker to remind themselves and generations to come of those special moments.  Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Moses, Joshua and Jacob all made altars as a way to worship and honor God and as a reminder of special moments or covenants with God or someone else.  Genesis 31 : 45-48 45 So Jacob took a stone and set it up as a pillar. 46 He said to his relatives, “Gather some stones.” So they took stones and piled them in a heap, and they ate there by the heap. …48 Laban said, “This heap is a witness between you and me today.”

I have personally had many moments that I have marked as being very special in my life one way or another. Some were moments of great joy like marrying my wife and the birth of my three amazing kids. Then there are those moments that might come out of great pain, hurt, or a difficult situation that reminded me of God’s love and His Hand of protection being around me to sustain me through whatever I was going through (like  my horse wreck a few years ago). Many of these moments are what we call Sacred moments or as I heard one Clergy person say one time an “OMG Moment” “OH MY GOD Moment” in which we encounter God’s Blessing and Grace in special ways through God Himself or through others.  These moments are meant to bring us closer to God and to His people.

This past weekend I had another one of those Sacred moments as I watched God the father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit change, impact and transform the lives of men during an Emmaus weekend event. Men from 12 different churches came together not knowing what to expect and at different spiritual points in their lives. Some were hurting, some had lost their zeal for the Lord, some were hungry to learn, and some just showed up after being asked for several years to attend as a way of getting someone else to quit asking and bugging them about this spiritual walk called Emmaus. Before the weekend was over every man was touched in a special way that changed and encouraged him in his walk with the Lord. Just like the two disciples when the Lord came alongside them as the travelled to Emmaus- before He left them and their eyes were opened to His presence.  Read the story in Luke24: 13-35.

I don’t know where you might be in your journey of life, whether you’re just starting out on your walk with Christ like those two disciples on the road to Emmaus who didn’t recognize Him or you’re breaking bread and your eyes are wide open to God’s amazing Apage Love. But, God has promised to meet you in your need and He will give you a new heart and make you His own. When you call upon the Lord and seek His forgiveness He will cleanse you and make you as white as snow. Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.  When you allow God to come into your life there is no doubt in my mind He will give you many OMG moments. Those Scared moments that you will be able to drive your stake in the ground or put up some kind of reminder to remind you and generations to come of God’s great love for you and them. He can and will change your heart just like He did for those men during their Emmaus Walk. De Colores
