A Matter of the Heart

Verse for the Day: Matthew 10:29-31 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

As I got on an airplane at DFW in Dallas Fort Worth for the last leg of my trip to Birmingham Alabama it was getting dark and a full moon was coming up over the airport. By the time we taxied down the runway and got into the air it was totally dark and the lights of Dallas were amazing. As I relished the sights of all the lights I couldn't help but think about today's Scripture and how amazing our God is. To think for every light I see there are probably at least twice as many people if not more than the lights I see. And to think God knows every hair on every person’s head - well let's just say that is beyond imagination, beyond comprehensive and beyond anything we will ever be able truly appreciate how awesome our God really is.

I wonder if God has a special place in His heart for people who are - let's see, how do I say this politically correct, can comb their hair with a wash cloth. How did I do Larry? Well, less I digress from my point, if our God is a God who knows every hair on everyone's head, even those hairs that have fallen out over the years, don't you think he knows our needs, wants, and desires. The truth is God does know where you are hurting physically, spiritually, emotionally, fiscally or any other way. He knows our hopes, dreams, and the deepest desires of our heart. He knows your deepest secrets good and bad. He knows your thoughts and words before they are thought or spoken. And in spite of knowing all our faults, weaknesses, strengths, and short comings He still loves us and desires a relationship with each one of us regardless what we have done or where we have been--He is calling us back into a personal and loving relationship with Him.

I love these verses found in Romans 8:31-39 31 What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? 32 Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? 33 Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. 34 Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us. 35 Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? ….. 37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,  neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Wow! What an awesome promise for all who call upon the Lord as their Savior. So, why is it that so many people have fallen into Satan’s traps of believing there is not hope, there’s no way out-that their problems are too big for God to handle? They believe they will never be good enough, pure enough or do enough to deserve God’s Forgiveness of Love and Mercy.

The truth is they are absolute correct “If” they are trying to live in their own strength and not the Strength of the Lord. The biggest problem is the fact that we humans have no true understanding or comprehension of God Omniscience and Omnipotence-God’s All-knowing, All seeing, All-powerful, Unstoppable Strength, Love, Mercy and Grace that He has for his people. Isaiah 55:9 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. Just like seeing the light over Dallas Fort Worth area and thinking God knows every person and every hair on every person’s head is beyond understanding or comprehension - just multiply that word picture by infinity times infinity and you start to get of glimpse of how Big our God truly is.

So, when you are feeling small, insignificant, lost, confused, hurt, forgotten, worthless, “trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death”  remember God knows exactly where you are at and what you need and nothing can or will ever separate you from His Love when you call on Him.

Verse for the Day:  Deuteronomy 32:1-4 “Listen, O heavens, and I will speak! Hear, O earth, the words that I say! 2 Let my teaching fall on you like rain; let my speech settle like dew. Let my words fall like rain on tender grass, like gentle showers on young plants. 3 I will proclaim the name of the LORD; how glorious is our God! 4 He is the Rock; his deeds are perfect. Everything he does is just and fair. He is a faithful God who does no wrong; how just and upright he is!(NLT)

Fall in the Rocky Mountains, as far as I'm concerned there is nothing better. The colors are changing, the air is crisp, and afternoon rain showers are common. Our cabin is several hundred yards off one of the main county roads SW of Lake City. This county road sees lots of traffic throughout the summer as it is one of the main access roads for what is called the Scenic Byway part of the Alpine Loop. From this road you can connect to many other roads and trails that have some of the most beautiful scenery in SW Colorado. But with all that traffic the dust comes; lots and lots of dust at times.

Why am I telling you this? Well early this morning as I slept in my bed I was woken by the sound of rain hitting our metal roof, so I got up and I started to think how sweet the sound and how amazing the smell of the falling rain was. As I sit here writing this devotion waiting for the sun to come, which is still several hour away, listening to the rain coming down sometimes gently and sometimes with force I am once again reminded of Gods great love for us. Not only does the rain sound sweet and smell good, I also know it will bring a cleansing-washing of all the dust grime and other impurities on the trees, other vegetation and structures in the area that has built up.  I also can't help but think about the storms that come to us throughout our life time sometimes gentle, sometimes with great force. Some storms last only a short time and are gone quickly, while others may last what seems to be a life time.

The important thing we must remember when God sends us a rain storm in our life is that it’s not meant to punish us but to wash us and purify us from our grime and dirt that we have allowed to build up in our lives. Just like the rain cleanses off all the dust and makes things look new and fresh God uses storms in our lives as a way to restore, refresh, and build our faith and helps us to see the need for His amazing Love and Grace.

While some storms may not be pleasant and are hard to deal with at times, we must remember when we persevere and stay the course that God has laid out for us, the clouds will go away and the sun will once again shine. And as the SON begins to shine once again in your life you will be able to appreciate what The Lord has done for you.

So ask yourself this question: Do I complain or curse God when the rain storms of life come your way or do you rejoice and praise The Lord knowing that something better is on the way? I truly believe that most of the storms we face in life are not for our benefit but for the benefit our family, friends, co-worker and others. You see, I believe God wants us to use our rain storms as a way to witness to others about His great love for us. God wants you to share how He helped bring you through your storm and back into the Son Light.

Well, as I begin to see a hint of light this morning the rain has begun to slow. I can still see gray skies above and that's alright because I know, while I may not know what this day holds, I do know Who holds this day. So let it rain, let it snow, let the sun shine I will praise The Lord for “This is the day the Lord has made. We (I) will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24

PS: Now that it’s light enough to see there is a dusting of snow on the mountain peaks. Wow! What amazing beauty I see, the snow capped peaks are surrounded by yellow, orange and red aspen leafs. It's just another reminder that even in the midst of storms you can find beauty and peace if you will only open your eyes to God's Grace and Love and allow Him to guide your steps through the storm.
